LOOK UP
The term ‘look up’ was used to emphasise the idea of exploring and capturing minimal and brutalist themes, spaces which created a grey and almost dull tone but when continuous experimentation and development is then appreciated and understood.
Brutalist architecture has gradually shown me minimal construction, bare building materials and structural elements upon all other buildings through underused perspectives and considered spaces. Look Up also explores the idea of exploring and showcasing awareness of an upward perspective on things which the human eye would not see on a day-to-day basis.
The capturing of certain areas of space within a photograph was considered very heavily during this process of experimentation. I wanted to consider certain elements of scenery within the context of these photographs that weren’t of interest, particularly interesting and by capturing and focusing on certain specific spots which nailed the composition and implementing certain angles which wouldn’t be used on a regular basis, I was able to capture content I would never think I would personally enjoy.
Look Up, a mini-project part of Strand was further developed due to my intrigue with this form of architecture. It allowed me to focus on certain subject matter which involved heavy areas of black and white. It was ultimately decided that the collection and gradual exploration of From the materials to the application of monochrome, the style of photography and editing would also enhance the motivation to learn new forms of photography and art.
